Lego Camp Begins

Lego Camp
June 11 - 15, 2018
Pre K - Grade 1

Each day of the week we are exploring one letter of the acronym STEAM with Legos.

Monday started with S for Science. Tuesday was T for Technology and today was E for Engineering. Tomorrow will be A for Arts and the week will conclude on Friday with M for Mathematics.

Monday

We explored the science of water.  We measured how much water was displaced by 25 2x2 Lego bricks.  We made a water maze to control the flow of water.  We also built boats and tested them to see if they would float.

Tuesday

We used the Lego WeDo 2.0 kits to build Milo, a programmable Lego rover.  The campers worked in small groups to follow the building instructions.  They were then able to program Milo using the Lego WeDo App on iPads.  They programmed Milo using block coding to move forward, backwards, change light color, display pictures, make sounds, and much more.

Wednesday

Today, we learned about engineers and the engineering process.  Campers watched a video that explained that engineers solve problems for people by designing solutions, building models, testing the models and then improving their models.  The campers tried to solve the problem of creating a house for the Three Little Pigs that the Big Wolf could not blow down.
